YWCA Cambridge provides a vital and unique blend of athletics and educational programs, social support services, and SRO housing to its Central Square neighborhood. The YWCA worked with Davis Square Architects to adapt their facilities to the neighborhood’s dynamic needs.
We started with a detailed capital needs assessment of the existing facilities, particularly focusing on energy performance improvements to help control the organization’s operating costs well into the future. The occupied rehab included historic preservation of the distinguished 1911 and 1970s buildings’ interiors and exteriors, renovations of SROs and common spaces, buildings systems modernization, code compliance, life safety and accessibility upgrades.
