As a continually growing human service agency that supports individuals with disabilities, TILL was in desperate need of a new home for their Watertown Day Program that catered specifically to their users and the organization’s programming needs. A close collaboration between Davis Square Architects, the client, and the contractor was required in this fast-track project, which was completed in less than one year.
Located along a main street in Watertown, Massachusetts, the building derived its unique shape from the gentle curve of the street. The design features cedar siding, reveal panels, and corrugated metal on both the exterior and interior. Inside, the 16,000 sf space includes classrooms, a dining and kitchen area, a conference room, and spaces for physical therapy and gross motor improvement. For flexibility, both the kitchen and conference rooms on the first floor have garage doors that can be opened up for special events and celebrations.
