Salem Point Apartments is an 11-building, 77-unit affordable development located in the Salem Point neighborhood. North Shore Community Development Coalition acquired the buildings and worked with Davis Square Architects on extensive renovations in order to preserve long-term affordability.
In addition to new energy-efficient mechanical systems and a solar thermal hot water heating system, the scope of work included window and roof replacement, new kitchens and bathrooms, masonry and historic façade repairs, as well as flooring upgrades. Also an important part of the project was the creation of the 15 Ward Street Pocket Park, which involved the transformation of a former dumping site into an urban park, as well as the recreation of two large-scale murals painted by community artists.
