Rockwood Early Educational Academy
When the Rockwood Early Educational Academy was required to move out of their old location, they called upon Davis Square Architects to help them create a new and better home. Unfortunately, the new space was inefficient and mostly below grade, and both the budget and schedule were tight. A careful layout maximizes play space in eight classrooms, and provides staff with offices, a break room, kitchen, and food storage. Large, child-height interior windows and playful color patterns make the most of the limited natural light. By transforming awkward existing elements into playful features, such as storage platforms, ramps, and play stages, the center now provides an exciting 5,700 sf space for almost 100 children from underprivileged neighborhoods.
