Davis Square Architects partnered with the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council to revitalize a long-neglected block on Essex Street in downtown Lawrence. The mixed-use development features 39 affordable rental apartments and about 7,700 square feet of commercial space, including the adaptive reuse of 370 Essex Street, formerly the Lawrence Gas Company headquarters, into 16 apartments and ground-floor retail.
A new five-story addition continues the Essex Street streetscape, with one- to three-bedroom units affordable to working families, including eight reserved for Section 8 households. Conveniently located on several bus lines, the project brings new housing and community-focused businesses to the neighborhood.
