Davis Square Architects worked with Home City Development on the renovation and expansion of Chestnut Crossing at the YMCA of Greater Springfield, a six-story, 104-unit high-rise. The project is a partially-occupied rehab consisting of extensive renovations to the building’s interior, with select envelope restoration, all-new windows, improved energy efficiency and heating systems. Accessibility and life safety upgrades were also included. The management offices, main lobby and community room were reconfigured and given new finishes and flooring. Units, which occupy the upper four floors, were enlarged and partially expanded into the second floor; kitchens and bathrooms were updated. Seven units are fully compliant accessible units, and two units meet the MAAB Sensory Impairment Guidelines. Bicycle storage was added and old building signage replaced, and landscape improvements completed.
