With the modern rock playing over the speakers and a wide variety of coffees and espresso-based drinks, Bloc 11 quickly became the coolest reason to hang out in Somerville’s Union Square. Davis Square Architects transformed a former bank building into a cozy coffee shop. The adaptive reuse kept many key elements of the original architecture, with fixed seating in the vault and old safety deposit boxes. Bloc 11 also features a modern update on the industrial aesthetic. The layout includes a counter with bar seating, a kitchen area, smaller seating areas spread throughout, a gas fireplace and adjacent outdoor patio with a pergola and seating.
