Davis Square Architects worked with Beacon Communities on extensive renovations to Baystate Place in Springfield. The project provides 346 units of rental housing — many of which are designated as affordable — spread across 3 buildings that range from 8 to 13 stories tall. Originally built in the 1970s, Baystate Place was more than ready for improvements.
These critical unit upgrades include all new windows; renovated kitchens and bathrooms; new flooring and paint; improved HVAC systems; and 18 new accessible unit conversions. Improvements in the common areas provide an expanded management office with new wellness center; renovated community room with a new common kitchen; new fitness center; two new laundry rooms and a store for residents; as well as new HVAC, fire safety and security systems. Exterior improvements include redesign of the spacious outdoor courtyard along with providing new accessibility entrances from all parking areas, and various building concrete repairs and roof replacements.
