The mission of Abby’s House is to “provide shelter and affordable housing, as well as advocacy and support services, to homeless, battered and low-income women, with or without children.” Davis Square Architects is working with Abby’s House on the renovation of and addition to an existing historic structure located in the Crown Hill Local Historic District of Worcester.
The project will include the complete reconfiguration of the first floor to create new office/management space, a larger common kitchen, accessible bathroom, a children’s play area and storage space. The second floor will also be reconfigured to add more bedroom space as well as updates to the bathrooms. In total, the project will provide nine SROs, three family rooms and two transitional apartments.
Exterior improvements include masonry repointing and an expanded parking area, along with new landscaping, walkways, storage shed and an accessible entrance.
