DSA’s Kevin Vician, Adam Richter and Iric Rex, AIA, LEED AP were honored to join Home City Development Inc at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate a transformative milestone at Chestnut Crossing Apartments: the former YMCA of Greater Springfield has been transformed into a six-story, 130-unit affordable community that now offers safe, supportive and high-quality housing.
Adding to our completed work in 2020 that created 101 units on floors 2-6, this phase added 29 affordable studio units on floors 1 and 2, along with management and supportive service spaces, and the removal of the abandoned athletic facilities at the rear of the property. The revitalized building provides stability and onsite services for residents facing chronic homelessness and mental health challenges, and through a partnership between HCDI and the Mental Health Association, Chestnut Crossing now offers permanent supportive housing and full-time onsite staff dedicated to helping residents thrive.
Chestnut Crossing is an inspiring example of what’s possible when we invest in housing that restores dignity, fosters community, changes lives, and builds better neighborhoods.
