Davis Square Architects worked with Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA) and the Boston Housing Authority on renovations to West Newton/Rutland Apartments, an affordable scattered-site rental development spanning 146 units across 27 historic brick townhouses in Boston’s South End neighborhood.
The occupied rehab included upgrades such as life safety, accessibility, ventilation and energy efficiency, while also restoring the buildings’ original historic character. Common areas were also renovated, and units received new kitchens and bathrooms as well as new doors, windows and flooring. Sustainable features include high-efficiency heating systems and efficient lighting.
Residents are also connected to IBA’s full range of services, including workforce development, case management, advocacy, preschool and youth programs, arts and cultural programs, and more.
