Davis Square Architects teamed up with NorthStar Learning Centers on their new state-of-the-art Early Education Academy, 10 Hyacinth Street. Located in New Bedford, the academy doubles the current full-time enrollment to serve 135 children and families, and bolsters NorthStar’s 50-plus years’ mission of addressing academic disparities due to funding inequity and socioeconomic factors through community-oriented, enriching educational programming and experiences.
10 Hyacinth Street features a new two-story building totaling over 18,100 sf, and includes 10 classrooms, a community space, gross motor skills space, administrative offices and conference rooms, and a commercial kitchen. Outside, a cheerful playground lets kids engage in active play, exploration, and outdoor learning.
Formerly home to St. Hyacinth’s Church, the site has been repurposed into supportive use to the densely populated neighborhood, and reactivates a lot that has sat unused for a significant period of time. The project is also conveniently located within walking distance of public transit.
