Davis Square Architects worked with the Boston Housing Authority on significant improvements to two housing developments, Heritage Apartments and Lower Mills Apartments, which underwent subsidy conversion from conventional public housing to a project-based Section 8 voucher subsidy.

Heritage Apartments, built in 1974, is comprised of 276 efficiency, one- and two-bedroom apartments for elderly and disabled residents, as well as 20 family townhouses. The scope of work includes significant energy upgrades such as windows, insulation, and heating system conversions. Also included are major exterior envelope repairs, paving and lighting improvements, common area upgrades, water-saving fixtures, new fire protection systems and new accessible units.

Lower Mills is comprised of 179 efficiency one- and two-bedroom apartments in a single seven-story building. The scope of work entailed adding insulation, heating system conversions, a new cogeneration system, exterior envelope repairs, and common area upgrades.
