192 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA

Scope
Gut renovation

Located in Back Bay, one of Boston’s most expensive neighborhoods, and along the pedestrian mall, 192 Commonwealth Avenue was the gut rehab and dramatic redesign of a condominium for modern and luxury living. Though the unit was spacious, its layout dated back to the days of subdivided rooms and live-in help with a small kitchen at the rear.

After a thorough investigation of existing plumbing and electrical stacks, Davis Square Architects tackled the challenge of working in an occupied building and moving the kitchen to make it a hub, with other living spaces (bedrooms, library, spacious master suite, living and dining spaces) flowing around it. One of the project's highlights is a sleek, modern, Italian-designed kitchen combined with traditional finishes.
